Tanagura Town is a community of about 14,000, occupying 159.93 square kilometers in the southern part of Fukushima Prefecture. It was originally a castle town, dating from the building of Tanagura Castle by Nagashige Niwa, and for centuries has served as an important focus for politics and commerce. The surrounding area is mountainous, and the principal industries are forestry and farming.
Renaissance Tanagura is a resort-type sports plaza where various sports can be played, while the Kurabikan culture center is a key facility for community art, cultural pursuits and continuing education programs. The goal of these and other facilities is to make Tanagura a more charismatic and distinctive town, with a bright future.

Declaration
The City of Kawagoe and the Town of Tanagura both once had Matsudaira Suonokami as their lord, and have developed their own history every since.
This historical connection, stimulating economical, cultural and tourist exchanges, has brought the depopulated town and the progressive city closer.
For this reason, Kawagoe and Tanagura will establish a goodwill relationship as friendship cities in the hope of prosperity for both places through mutual understanding and emphasis on the welfare of their citizens.
We hereby declare the Kawagoe-Tanagura Friendship City Pledge.
This declaration is made in duplicate for each city/town to keep.
Dated the eighteenth of January 1972.
Takiji Kato, Mayor, Kawagoe City, Saitama Prefecture
Yoshinosuke Fujita, Mayor, Tanagura Town, Fukushima Prefecture
